About Sëdézë

Sëdézë (pronounced Seh-dey-zeh) is an Indigenous Indie-Soul-Rock band based out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Sëdézë was formed by Karlen and Jade, after playing together for numberous years. While tree planting across Northern Alberta in 2023, the duo met Lovina and quickly discovered their mutual love of music. They began jamming and writing songs together to pass their time in the bush before embarking on a busking tour across western Canada. In 2024 the band grew in size by adding JP, and Taylor to the mix, with Lovina departing from the band in mid 2024. In late 2024 they recruited a bass player known simply by vbnd as the final member, completing the line up.

Sëdézë released their first single “Purple Blanket”, which speaks to the themes of family, friendship, and resilience.

After another single release in "Where do you go?", the band travelled to Toronto to record their first EP titled "Redlines" which received critical acclaim by various outlets in the Saskatchewan area. The song Earthside won song of the year at the 2024 SIMA Awards, as well as the band snagging up the Fans Choice Award.

Through a combination of lyrical prose, soulful vocals, and Indie-Rock sensibility, Sëdézë draws inspiration from their experiences as Indigenous artists in the Western Canadian landscape. Sëdézë, which means “little sister” in Dënë, is a tribute to Karlen's younger sister who passed away in 2023.

With music that acts as a tribute to their own traditional lands, relatives, and histories, Sëdézë aims to inspire other Rez kids to follow their dreams.
